ABOUT HEDONISM
Why I created this event long before we were globally aware of the #MeToo movement?
Women live in fear everyday of sexual assault in some way, shape or form. From slut shaming, virgin shaming, rape, groping by strangers, suffering from painful sex in silence, lack of sexual satisfaction or empowerment, ignorance about their own body, body shame and more. The patriarchal rape culture has created a catastrophic arena for women to experience healthy sexuality.
We are here to make big shift happen!
In 2005 my husband and I went to Hedonism Resort in Jamaica for the first time. I was afraid of going because I assumed it would be like the rest of the world where men ruled. I was wrong. It was the only place I had experienced where women ruled. Women made the decisions, women supported one another, women were revered, adored and appreciated. I had an emotional, spiritual & sexual reawakening that trip. I discovered I wasn’t over the hill, I was still sexy, could fully embrace and enjoy my sex energy (more about that later), and that my husband LOVED the more alive, vibrant and awakened ME. Win – Win!
In my work as an educator, sensual yoga therapist and Doctor of Human sexuality, a common discovery I have made working with women around the world is that most women feel repressed sexually in some way. They are criticized for being too much, not enough or wrong in some aspect. Over time this is damaging to the body, mind and spirit. As a yogini I vowed long ago to uphold the yoga meaning – to Yoke, Join, Body, Mind & Spirit. So when I see these being eroded by our aged cultural beliefs I have to step up and help.
This event is one of the ways I offer my love and guidance for women who desire their own reconnection or reawakening to the sex goddess within. It’s not about sex, it’s about sexual freedom, sexual energy, feeling free and alive and more than enough just as we are!
